A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
