UEFA has commenced disciplinary proceedings against Chelsea winger Pedro Neto following an incident where he pushed over a ball boy in the Champions League loss by Paris St‑Germain.
The 26-year-old, Pedro Neto, knocked the youngster during added time of the last-16 fixture at Parc des Princes – where Chelsea lost 5-2 – which caused the boy falling from a chair.
The incident triggered a heated exchange between players from both teams.
Uefa said proceedings have been instigated against Neto for "unsporting behaviour" as per the official rules.
"The relevant committees will take a decision regarding this matter at a later date," European football's governing body added in its statement.
The Chelsea player apologised for the incident and blamed getting swept up "in the intensity of the match" as he tried to quickly retrieve the match ball.
"This is out of character for me. Emotions were running high and I sincerely apologise. I gave him my shirt. I'm really sorry about it - an apology is necessary," Neto told the media.
"I don't speak French well, so teammate Vitinha came over and told him that this isn't my normal behaviour.
"Eventually he [the ball boy] laughed and I gave him my shirt and said sorry about 35 times. He understood the context of the incident and was happy with the outcome."
Chelsea face PSG in the upcoming second leg in the second leg, after Newcastle's visit to Stamford Bridge this weekend in domestic competition.
