Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he lost control at corner four soon after starting.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, just behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
