An extensive 60-day journey through Australia was terminated following the tragic passing of an elderly lady who was abandoned by the ship on a distant coastal location.

The passenger had been walking on the tropical location with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the party for a break. The liner sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the ship staff realised the lady was missing.

A major hunt discovered her remains the following day.

Investigative bodies are examining the event, together with law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company said that guests and personnel on the vessel were informed that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and prior engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that passengers would be given a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to arrange the travel back of the individuals via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" banning any additional guests from boarding the ship.

The official said that they would visit the liner in the port city upon its arrival.

Timeline of Occurrences

The liner originally sailed from Cairns on 24 October, and was just two days into the voyage at the time of the elderly woman's death. The tropical location was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Travelers on the ship - who usually pay large sums of dollars to take part in the voyage - were ferried there for a shore visit with the choice of walking or snorkelling.

Family Response

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "stunned and saddened that the vessel left Lizard Island after an organised outing without my mother".

Through her comments, she characterized her parent as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a member of a bushwalking club.

"From the little details we have been provided, it looks that there was a failure of care and basic judgment," she said.

She added that she wished the examination would be able to pinpoint what "the operator should have performed that might have protected Mother's life".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a very hot day, and mum took sick on the hill climb," she revealed.

"They requested her to return, alone. Then the vessel departed, apparently without conducting a passenger count.

"During some point in that sequence, or soon after, she succumbed, alone."

Company Position

Via official communication, the Chief Executive verified that the operator was "cooperating fully with investigators to support their investigation".

He mentioned that the organization was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had extended its total backing to the relatives.

Maritime Business Practices

The ship serves up to a hundred twenty guests with nearly fifty staff, according to company data. It was specially constructed to reach isolated locations of Australia's shoreline and is fitted with "small boats" - small boats used to ferry travelers on land visits.

Events such as this are uncommon, and liners have procedures to track which travelers are embarking or leaving, according to industry experts.

"Leaving covertly or [back] on the ship really isn't an option," one expert commented.

Shipping companies regard these processes with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to prevent such incidents from occurring," the expert added.

"This is probably a shocking - and unfortunate - single occurrence."
