The sibling of the Southport attacker testified his mother and father "lost control" of their son and he feared his younger sibling would murder a individual of their household, a hearing has heard.

The individual, then 17, fatally attacked three youngsters at a celebrity-themed lesson on 29 July 2024.

The Southport Inquiry, conducted at a civic building, was told the family member Dion Rudakubana warned a acquaintance there was a danger of his relative "committing an act deadly."

The investigation was informed he wrote to his friend over the online platform: "The fights are frightening because of the risk of loss of life."

He testified his sibling reminded him of the psychopathic killer in the picture the thriller.

Increasing Conflict

The hearing learned Dion was identified with a health issue at the early teens which caused him needing mobility assistance and his mother and father providing increased care.

Questioned by the lawyer, counsel to the inquiry, if that affected their bond he stated: "Strain developed that came about."

The brother acknowledged his relative appeared to resent this shift.

He revealed to the inquiry that after the household left their previous home to their new location his brother's moods declined and he would have "physical explosions."

The hearing heard he became "more cautious" of his sibling, who would hit him regularly.

He stated: "I had to be cautious if I tried to communicate to him because any disagreement could turn into an confrontation."

'Genuine concerns'

The brother said his sibling became increasingly physical after he was removed from his school in that region, in October 2019.

The sibling went to college in the following period and the brothers spoke less and less "due to unfamiliarity with having me around."

Proceedings was informed of a communication he wrote to a acquaintance on Discord in which he said his relative was irritated with him talking during nighttime because of the poor insulation in their residence.

He further revealed to his contact there was a possibility of "his committing an act that could kill."

He said: "Arguments are frightening because of the threat of a fatality."

The counsel asked: "You held real worries that your sibling would kill a member of your household?"

Dion responded: "In case matters intensified to that level."

The counsel questioned how his family dealt with the relative's physical conduct.

"It was pointless to attempt to discipline him," he said. "Additionally, there was a significant danger in proceeding that way.

"We said there was a overall danger to safety in casual discussion, if you try to confront him... it could provoke violence."

When questioned if his mother and father had lost control of his brother, the brother concurred.

When asked about his relative being similar to a persona from the picture No Country for Old Men, the brother said: "I've been told that persona's supposed to be a sociopath and that's why I used the word there."

The brother said the final contact he had with his brother was in the 2023 summer.

He confirmed that their mother and father requested the perpetrator to bid farewell to him as he was departing to visit his associates and his relative threw a bottle at him but the door had closed before it made contact.
